Sierra On-Line
Ken and Roberta Watson founded On-Line Systems in 1979, and renamed the company Sierra On-Line in 1982. Sierra On-Line became known for a number of graphic adventure series, including King's Quest, Space Quest, Leisure Suit Larry and Quest for Glory. Sierra purchased Coktel Vision in 1993 and published the third game in the Gobliiins series as Goblins Quest 3 to associate the game with Sierra's many other "Quest" franchises. They purchased several other game developers in the early 1990s, including Dynamix in 1990 and Papyrus Design Group in 1995, before being purchased themselves by CUC International in 1996, which merged with with HFS Incorporated in 1997 to form Cendant Corporation. Cendant sold its comsumer software division to Havas S.A. in 1998, which was renamed Vivendi Universal Publishing in 2000. By 1999 Sierra On-Line ceased to be a developer and became a publisher for independent game developers, and was renamed Sierra Entertainment in 2002. Dynamix shut down in 2001, Papyrus shut down in 2004, and Coktel Vision was sold in 2005. Vivendi Universal Games, which was renamed Vivendi Games in 2006, merged with Activision in 2008. Activision shut Sierra down later in 2008.
