Based on the legendary SCUMM engine, Sam & Max Hit the Road is a graphic adventure with cartoon animation. Sam and Max form the "Freelance Police", a duo of vigilante private detectives. Sam and Max frequently express their fondness for violence and their lack of concern for the safety of people they don't know, but the spirit of fun and humor is always clear, in part due to the cute characters. Sam is a suit-wearing anthropomorphic dog, and Max is a "hyperkinetic, three-foot rabbity thing." The two are sent on a mission to return a bigfoot named Bruno and Trixie the Giraffe-necked girl to a carnival, which takes them on an adventure across America. The graphics, music, humor, and gameplay are all excellent, and Sam & Max Hit the Road is considered one of the best graphic adventures of all time. Only the first three screens are playable in the shareware demo.
