RealNetworks
Originally known as Progressive Networks, RealNetworks was founded in 1994 by Rob Glaser, a former Microsoft employee. Focused on streaming video, the RealAudio and RealVideo formats were once the dominant formats for recorded audio and video, and RealPlayer was an essential application. As free alternatives captured Real's marketshare, Real moved into gaming in 2001 with RealArcade, a service that allowed visitors to play games before purchasing them.
