Re: Game wishlist
Pretzel Pete? Somehow this sounds familiar but I have no idea where I heard/read about that (I skip about 99% of datacube text in Tyrian so it's rather unlikely I encountered the title there).
The game itself looks like some typical Win95 era "Hey, we can do weird stuff in 3D!" game.

Re: Game wishlist
Yeah, and people wonder why I prefer Tyrian 1.1
The straaaaange obscure crap I find on shovelware
Also, hopefully to MrFlibbles' interest, I found an obscure 1997 online-only turn based strategy game called Stratagem. It has a rather Warcraft 2 influence in its art direction, though I can see why it is obscure. The developer's name? Warez Inc.... a name like that carries an unfortunate stigma. Archive.org has only one copy of its site from 1998 (warez.demon.co.uk).

Re: Game wishlist
Yeah, that was a poor choice. Who's going to pay for a game from a company called Warez?

I'm pretty certain I've heard the title somewhere before, and quickly looking up AG.ru showed that the game is indeed in their base, even with a couple of screenshots. The game is indeed very Warcraft-y visually, and the pre-rendered units are resemblant of the art in Rage of Mages.

Re: Game wishlist
I did find a Stratagem PackageForTheWeb installer.
Here's Chasm 1.28 and 1.32. Repacks, unfortunately, but I tried to keep them clean.
And finally, ooh no it's the Pretzel Pete Beta Demo Level 2.

I haven't figured out what the goal of Pretzel Pete is (from watching the video, that is). BTW, Googling suggests Pretzel Pete is some kind of baking company or something, so this was supposed to be an advertising game (not that advertising games are bad)?

Re: Game wishlist
Both didn't work for me. They refuse to launch without CHASM.CFG, which is missing from both archives, and when I tried using the one from the three-level version, both go as far as the loading screen with a palette glitch that leaves only two colours - black and white. After that, v1.28 crashes back to the command prompt (it doesn't redraw the screen but you can just manually clear the screen) and v1.32 just freezes.leilei wrote:Here's Chasm 1.28 and 1.32. Re: Game wishlist
Yeah I didn't want to include any 'new' files. Turns out Chasm doesn't generate configs

Re: Game wishlist
That's weird. And if it can't recreate them, even weirder that whoever repackaged the archives didn't include them.

Re: Game wishlist
Some games/demos, even new ones, don't auto-generate configuration files or revert to built-in defaults upon user request or when a config file is missing. I remember how I tried to tweak mouse sensitivity in the Will Rock demo, and when I decided I'd stick with the original settings after all it turned out there was no "set to defaults" button, and deleting the configuration file made the game crash on startup.
BTW, the three-level version also has a file called CHASM.DEf which appears to be identical to CHASM.CFG. I didn't run a byte-by-byte comparison but they are of the same size and seem to be the same file; curiously, the date stamps on both are different (then again, I guess it's normal under DOS if a file was just copied with a different name).
