Since there's a demo of NASCAR Racing on the site, I guess a playable demo of its sequel could be added as well:
NAS2.ZIP

The demo also has some more playing options compared to the demo of the first game, and allows to race against actual opponents.

Additionally, there are also playable demo versions of NASCAR Racing 1999 Edition, NASCAR Racing 3, NASCAR Legends and NASCAR Heat:
nr1999d.exe
n3demo.exe
nldemo.exe
heatdemo11.exe

Daytona USA Deluxe demo: ddx_demo.exe

Rocket Chase

Post by Silas »

Hi, I'm new here.

Before you get angry please excuse my (maybe?) bad school-english. - Im from Germany.^^

Your website is a real treasure chest :o .

But now to my request: I searched the whole day now for an old DOS-Game which my family and me played very often on our Win98-PC.

It is named "Rocket Chase" (it took me hours to get this name):
A fast-paced shoot-em-up for two to four players. Fly through different levels in your small rocket and fight your enemies with several different weapons. The last man standing is the winner.
Source: http://www.mobygames.com/game/rocket-chase

It is a really cool game and I just want to play it once again, so that I can die peacefully (hopefully not so early .. I'm just 16 ^^ ).

I could not find it anywhere to download or the links were dead or whatever. Maybe you have more luck or better relations or someone has it on an old disk.
I would be so happy, if somebody would find it and send me and I am sure that it would be a great enrichment for this community because it is maybe the best game I have ever played.

edit:You can send me an E-Mail to sflemke@web.de, when you have any information.

Sincerely, Silas

Wow, their file archive is still up? Does it still require registration to access? And if not, how can the archive be browsed properly?

Sadly their file archive isn't up anymore. (as far as I know) They just sometimes post demos in articles.
(but crawling their website for these links might be a nice idea *starting program*)

I wonder if it'd be possible to contact someone of the staff and ask if the archive can be put back online.

Just stumbled upon an apparently very obscure DOS first-person action/adventure game from 2000 made by a German programmer Florian Born that is called Desperabis. According to the game's home page (archived copy), the full game was released as freeware on December 17, 2000. I have not yet found any information regarding its distribution prior to that date (i.e. whether it was free or sold). Info on the game is rather scarce, but it does feature some decent graphics, judging by screenshots.

The full version can be downloaded here: DESPERA2.EXE

I've watched a video of the promotional Nestlé game called Tricky Quiky Games, and soon played a demo off a CD from Hallfiry's collection. It has some nice graphics and fluid gameplay in the best traditions of the genre. Being a promotional game, the license suggests that it can be distributed freely for non-commercial purposes.

I have not yet found any original distributive of the game yet, but it is featured on Reloaded.org and also can be downloaded here.

The MobyGames cover says "Frei kopierbar", which roughly means "free to distribute".

Thanks for pointing that out, I'd never think of looking through the small print on the photo of the back cover :)

A game has caught my attention that is called Star Quest I in the 27th Century. It seems to be quite obscure, but from what information I found it appears to be a space/flight simulation game. Here's a description from the shareware distribution package:
Short Descrip. : A Full 3D Space Combat and Race Simulator
Long Desc : Take command as a high level officer giving orders to a
squadron of ultra-fast wing ships with high fire power. Order the fleet to
follow and protect you while you destroy hundreds of enemy ships. Don't miss
this amazing experience of flying with a team of top notch fighters. Imagine
arriving from deep space, closing in on a solar system, circling around a moon
to finally blast a base protected by ground cannons on the planet's surface.
Start playing the incredibly realistic missions to sense the ultimate fear of
destruction in ap bombarded by fire power so intense that your head will be
spinning. Wipe out space mine fields to protect your Star Cruisers while an
armada closes in on you... The ultimate real-time space flight environment.
Running on state of the art algorithms, Star Quest I allows you unlimited
freedom of movement and control around full 3D planets. FEATURES: 3D mapped
stars for a total feeling of immersion. Full 3D Gouraud shaded planets with
atmosphere simulation. Texture mapped objects with real-time shading by
sunlight. Mixed missions: deep space, air and surface. Over 60 different
spaceships. Space racing with weaponry. Full 360 degree 3D movement including
light speed, reverse and stop. Layered sound effects with volume that
decreases with distance. General MIDI music output. Animated texture mapping.
Exploration mode to plan your attack and strategy. 10 levels of difficulty per
mission. Stunning explosions with flying debris.
The shareware version is found on several CDs at cd.textfiles.com, for example, here: SQ101.ZIP

The trick is that I haven't been yet able to make it run in DOSBox so far.

AG.ru has some screenshots from the game:

I wonder if you'd be actually interested in hosting King's Bounty 2, if only for historical interest reasons. Sergei Prokofiev released his game as shareware, with only the first part freely distributable. The first part ends when the player finds all pieces of the map that must guide them to the main objective of the game, the Dark Castle, which is only available in the second, registered part of King's Bounty 2. I did some more research and it turns out that the second part was simply never made. Sergei Prokofiev was coding the game in his spare time, and initially did not plan to release it to the public at all. The first part was released for free, he never tried to make any profit from it, and the creators of original concept are acknowledged in both the game and its supplied documentation.

The real issue with this game though is that it is entirely in Russian :)

Here's a download of the shareware only free version: KB2.ZIP

BTW, Prokofiev went later on to create a Heroes of Might and Magic-inspired commercial game, Heroes of Malgrimia (the original title was simply Malgrimia, the Heroes part was added by the publisher to ensure commercial success, as the HoMM series has traditionally been very popular among Russian gamers).

Tyrian 2000 has a datacube that promotes another game, Pretzel Pete. I've only found a beta demo of it dating to February 1998, and Mobygames has no entry. Here's a VERY SHORT video.
