Originally released for the Apple II in 1989, Prince of Persia introduced a new standard for fluid animation in computer games. The premise is simple: after serving as Grand Vizier to the Sultan of Persia for 16 years, the evil Jaffar has kidnapped the princess and given her an hour to decide between marrying him or death. The young man she loves has been thrown in prison and must save her before the hour is up. The hero can walk, run, crouch, jump, grab onto ledges, and fight with a sword (if he can find one). Both the hero and the guards have hit points, and there are potions in the palace that can harm or hurt the hero. Exploration is critical, as there are many hidden rooms. There are 13 levels in this game, with only the first two playable in the shareware version.
