difficult one that

Post by jg007 »

not really in keeping with the 'classic' and 'dos' part, but it would be nice to have a site with some of the same quality new releases on as a lot of new releases are heavily limmited or rubbish. even if it was just a 'New game of the month' link.

a what are they doing now might be interesting.

also to note, Rockstar games has now relesed GTA / GTA2 as freeware and although your games are all shareware, maybe we could have a section for commercial games now released as freeware as most other sites are either not fully legit or full of viruses / spyware.

nothing else I can really think of

There are games that are formerly commercial software on the site, as well as games that were always freeware. The GTA release on Rockstar's website is a Win32 version, and GTA2 was always for Windows, otherwise they would be on the site. I could approach them about getting the DOS version of GTA, though.

With regards to "what are they doing now", I did some nice interviews last year. I had a few people lined up for interviews in early 2006, but one person was busy with a new game, and another stopped replying after I sent him the interview questions. I also had an offer to do an interview by phone, but I didn't follow up on it. I will definitely write those people back and see if I can get some more interviews on the site. I'm glad I'm not the only one who wants to know what they're doing now.

If you can get the DOS version of GTA it might be interesting to see if it runs better under dosbox or similar than the win32 version does as I find it far too slow and not as smooth as I remember it although that might just be my lousy memory :)

do you prefer to have just shareware games or are you happy for other recomendations?? as there are load of games I have played that I would like to see again ( although the greedy companies probably still have them protected :)

I want to have the best games that can be legally distributed. Shareware games have been the easiest to find, and their authors have been the most willing to release their games as freeware. Nevertheless, there are some great former commercial games on the site. If you know of any that can be verified to have a freeware license, I'd be happy to add them to the site.

As for getting the original version of GTA, I'll ask Take Two about that. I assume that they didn't want to put a DOS version on their website so that they wouldn't get technical support questions about it, but they may be okay with me distributing one.
