Good day forum,

Ive done some basic searching (Google) on the sound probs associated with DOS games and WinXP. Ive tried a few programs from some sources posted several years ago but to no avail. Im sure there is a fix, I just haven't searched hard enough yet...too engrossed in my games! Is there any quick fix you all use to eliminate this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

The easiest fix is to install VDMSound. Then whenever you want to play a game, just right-click on it and select "Run with VDMS" and you'll have Sound Blaster emulation in your game.

While that's easier, an even better solution is to download DOSBox. DOSBox is an emulator, so you'll start the emulator and then load your game. In addition to emulating Sound Blaster, Adlib, Gravis Ultrasound, and other sound cards, it also works as a slowdown utility, and makes a lot of games work that don't work in Windows XP. DOSBox is almost 100% compatible with all DOS software.

Yeah, while VDMS may be easier to use, it hasn't been updated in a while and has many issues remaining. DOSBox is a much better all-round solution for playing DOS games on modern operating systems.

DOSBox is the way to go. Good luck!
