Demo's good, but the full version is somewhat lacking.

I used to confuse this game with Lotus III for some reason.

Not very impressive today, but amazing back then. I rate it 7 purely out of nostalgia. I used to really get a kick out of the little video sequences that would play prior to a race. It's like watching a movie! ON YOUR COMPUTER!!! :-)

^ Lotus III... I loved that game! Great soundtrack, too.

The annoying thing about the PC version is it is limited in framerate. You can't exceed 30 or 40fps, unlike the original 1994 3DO version which ran a full 60fps if i remember right. Also, the SVGA 3d rendering technically is 320x480... but it was 1995, and a machine that handled SVGA well during those days were a very expensive Pentium Pro, and not everyone was blessed with a Trio or ET4000 anyway. Still runs nice on 486s though with everything up to high in lo-res at least :P

the 3DO version also had colorful textures and FULL MOTION VIDEO of an EXTREME "BETTER THAN YOU" DRIVER!!!!!!!!!!! And a lives system. Think the craptastic Test Drive III being the prequel to NFS.

You have to admit NFS was the most atmospheric racing game on release though, even more so than its sequels.
