I wanted to comment on your blog story about the traffic your site has been receiving, but it seems that I must register an account to do this. Why is this? Can you disable this, because I'm sure more people might bother to actually comment on your blog posts if they didn't have to go through this hassle.

You've built a totally awesome website by the way. Unlike others, you have been thorough in your game revision/history research. Offering those older builds of the games may be something only a select amount of people would be interested in grabbing, but you've still taken the time (and huge effort, I'm sure) to track them all down and upload them for all other classic dos game fans to enjoy. Much thanks for that. Don't get discouraged by those numbers.

Users are required to register to post in the forum so that they can't: a) vote multiple times and screw up the ratings, b) post a bunch of anonymous and harassing messages, and c) create spam without at least providing a valid email address. It seemed like a good idea in the forum, so it seemed like a good idea for the blog. Unfortunately, every morning I have to delete five spam comments from the blog. What a nuissance!

I still don't like the idea of internet cowards being able to post crap and flame each other anonymously on the blog, but I guess I can just delete any comments that I don't like. I just think that people should take accountability for their actions. If you believe in something strongly enough to make a statement, then identify yourself and stand by what you wrote! At any rate, making it easier for people to comment, and requiring less accountability from commentators, seems like it would create more work for me, moderating and deleting posts. I'll have to weigh the pros and cons.

That is probably fixable, but it requires some work. I've aquired a spamming bot (program) and studied it's behaviour. They are actually relatively easy defeated once you know how they work and what their weaknesses are. Nonetheless the programs are very effictive at what they are designed to do.
